I was listening to an inspiring talk about Al Gore’s optimism for our future. In this talk he enthusiastically shouts: “We will beat this thing!”

I was excited to learn these stats:

Best projections in 2000, 16 years ago, was that wind energy would reach 30 GW by 2010, yet by 2015 that number was exceeded by a factor of 14.5 times. We see an exponential upward curve in wind installations, downward curve in costs.

Energy storage technology advancements are increasing, while costs are decreasing. Countries like Germany and Scotland are leading the way in solar energy production, while China is restructuring itself for the upcoming population explosion by building high-tech, leading edge eco-communities.

The best projections 14 years ago for solar was 1 GW per year by 2010, we are track to beat that by 68 times this year. We are seeing a revolutionary curve re: increase of installations across the globe.
In the financial world, investments in renewables are surpassing fossil fuels.

“Enough solar energy reaches earth every hour to fill all the world’s energy needs for an entire year. …so the answer to the question: Can we change? - the answer is yes.”, - Al Gore explains to the audience:
The Tesla company came out with a solar roof option to replace tile roofs at the same cost as tiles…. Now that sounds like a great option to consider.

Personally, in my brief life so far (47 years), I have seen a huge increase from what seemed like a few stranded, isolated groups of activists here and there, to hundreds of thousands of them – connected, working together, creating positive change, getting involved. I’ve had the honor of celebrating some of these on our blog.

Tree planting, soil remediation, river improvement, toxin reduction, animal protection, wildlife and wilderness, the recycling and repurpose movement, seed saving and gardening, human rights, food production… and so many others.

I feel this is a very exciting time and there is so much going on regarding new innovation and technology, new data accumulation, more cultures getting involved, and huge numbers of volunteers, scientists and enthusiasts sharing information and working together. So exciting really.
