Product Review

 -- Product Review --

Michael McClune of Café Viva Probiotic Coffee (www.probioticcoffee.com 1-567-laktera ) invited me to be a part of their product launch on Oct 28, and being a coffee lover – how could I refuse? He sent me seven samples of their instant coffee beverage line by Oct 29th and the package arrived on Nov 8th in the mail – in a padded yellow envelope.

At only 80 calories per serving this drink can actually satisfy hunger because of the additional nutrients (vitamins, minerals, amino acids, glucose, etc.) while providing energy – as such this could be considered a potential weight control tool. Optimal benefit comes through consuming the product daily (once per day); the benefits from the prebiotic and probiotic blend will take 4-7 days to materialize depending on the individual's gut health.

Interestingly this product can be added to yogurt, shakes, smoothies, served cold with ice, or mixed in with ice cream. I was glad to see that this product doesn’t contain gluten, GMO, wheat, salt, corn syrup, soy, preservatives, binders, fillers, or artificial ingredients.

The vacuum sealed, non-recyclable packages (14g) have a 24-month shelf life and contain a natural patented probiotic (3g) blend (4 billion healthy bacteria that aid both digestion and immune systems) harvested from spring water, Robusta instant coffee, creamer (rennet whey, palm oil and milk protein concentrate) - resulting in 2.2 g fat, 6.1 g. carbs, 1.8g of 21 amino acids, and 6 vitamins and minerals. The box the envelopes come in, however is made from recycled materials and is also recyclable.

When I first opened a package the first thing I noticed was a slight powdered milk odor. The drink mix does containe some dextrose, it seemed unsweetened to my taste buds so you may want to adjust that according to taste, possibly add a little milk (or alternatives like soy, rice or almond milk), or cream if you like. The taste reminds me of a combination of Ovaltine (anyone else remember that powdered drink mix?) and instant coffee. I did notice a small amount of sludge in the bottom of the cup, similar to what happens with hot chocolate mix.

I feel that Cafe Viva is a good fit for health and socially conscious consumers, and seems tailor-made for the convenience of outdoor, travel, and camping enthusiasts. This unique, 100% natural product appears to be unique in the marketplace offering energy, metabolism, immunity and digestion benefits in one drink.
