 An area in Western Japan have begun a new program that allows for the recycling of rare earth metals obtained from fluorescent light bulbs and tubes - the first program of its kind in the country.  They also will extract fluorescent powder, collecting it in containers and then extracting incredibly rare elements such as yttrium - and expect to be able to supply up to 12% of the demand for rare metals and elements like this for Japanese manufacturers. They hope to be able to refine the process to be more efficient and increase recycling facilities for the public - enabling them to produce more recycled materials in the future.
