-- Quote of the Day --
“…I began organizing
trekking expeditions and started raising money for different philanthropy and
after a few years of doing this, I made a connection who told me about his home
village – Basa. It is a little village in a remote area in the Himalayas. They
had a little school there and they wanted to add the 4th and 5th
grade – so we raised funds for them. And then we wanted to invite some of the
trekker donors to visit the village. That is how the Bassa Village Project
started. …The way we agreed to develop the village; we would only respond to
requests from the village, we would provide capital to provide materials and
experts but the villagers had to provide the labor and they would own and run
the project …the school, the hydroelectric system, etc. Our goal to have as
little impact as possible; not to destroy the local culture.”
