battery recycling

-- Quote of the Day --

“When you get things out on paper and you take a look at them – first of all you get that clarity and secondly it gets it out of your head and when you see it on paper …it doesn’t seem so overwhelming, because when you keep things in your head they can get bigger, cause more stress, more anxiety. We can look at things on paper and realize they are not as bad as we thought. …Go back into present moment – What are you happy with now? What are you grateful for now? What do you have now? …My best friend had colon cancer and passed away at a very young age and so that really put things in perspective for me – we need to cherish who we are and what we have now – rather than beings so focused on what we don’t have and what is in the future, this empowers us – right now is when we have the power to create the life we really want. …Step out there; whatever it is that you are called to do - do it. …All of us can all learn what it is that we want to do if we don’t know how.”

-- Positive News --

We'd like to celebrate the increased awareness about recycling batteries by North Americans - Call2Recycle released results stating there was a 13% increase in battery recycling in 2011 over the previous year. This organization collected more than 7.6 million pounds of this material - Canada experienced the greatest increase in participation, a 17% increase with the province of BC having the highest increase in participation (157%).  In the US three states stood out as leaders in the charge for recycling batteries, with municipal collections outpacing the retailers.

Call2Recycle is the only free battery and cell phone collection program in North America. Since 1994, Call2Recycle has diverted more than 70 million pounds (32 million kilograms) of rechargeable batteries from local landfills and established a network of 30,000 recycling drop-off locations.  Learn more at www.call2recycle.org
