Poverty, Humanity

-- Quote of the Day --

I believe a man is born first unto himself for the happy developing of himself – the world is a nursery and the pretty things are to be snatched for, and pleasant things tasted. Some people seem to exist thus right to the end. But most are born again on entering manhood; they are born to ‘humanity’ – to a consciousness of all the laughing, and the never ceasing murmur of pain and sorrow that comes from the multitudes.”

Its time again for us to celebrate the incredible positive, proactive work done in the world by so many individuals... We love to highlight non-profits, and others, in this section - offering their sites so that you can follow up, network, share with others, or support them in some way.

New Start Highland: this organization was established to provide practical help to homeless people who are moving into their own home. They offer everything from home improvement, training, budgeting, bikes, used furniture.

CARE: a leading humanitarian organization fighting global poverty. They place special focus on working alongside poor women because, equipped with the proper resources, women have the power to help whole families and entire communities escape poverty. Women are at the heart of CARE’s community-based efforts to improve basic education, prevent the spread of HIV, increase access to clean water and sanitation, expand economic opportunity and protect natural resources. CARE also delivers emergency aid to survivors of war and natural disasters, and helps people rebuild their lives.

CRASH: Now here's an interesting one for you. This organization focuses on the construction and property improvement industries by harnessing their skills, products and goodwill for the purpose of improving hostels, day centers, night shelters, training centers, and more - and it is all in support of the homeless.
