A Green Legacy

-- This Week - Leaving a Legacy as a Final Act --

Tuesday - Feb 2nd:

Did you know that over one million people in the world die by suicide every year leaving millions more bereft? The partners, children, parents, siblings, friends, colleagues and caregivers left behind are often plagued by a corrosive sense of guilt and shame. And the stigma associated with suicide commonly causes survivors to hide the truth and suppress their anguish.

Harvard psychiatrist Nancy Rappaport, author of the memoir In Her Wake: A Child Psychiatrist Explores the Mystery of Her Mother’s Suicide helps us understand suicide and the way it affects others. We will learn how to identify depression, and how to talk as a family about the tragedy. Discover language you can use to help your children deal with tragedies like this.

Our featured guest on Tuesday's Conscious Discussions episode was Nancy Rappaport who shared information on Surviving Suicide.

Thursday - Feb 4th:

A recent AARP poll asked: Which type of burial is most appealing? Only 8% polled wanted a traditional cemetery burial and only 18% chose cremation. 70.4% of those polled through the AARP website chose Green Burial. In Europe green burial and natural burials are all the rage, here in North America we seem to be just catching on to the idea. Although green burial is a hot topic, the public is not too familiar with what it really means. So what is this all about? – We’ll find out today through our very special guest Elizabeth Fournier of Cornerstone Funeral Services & Cremation. She works as a green mortician, educator and advocate who is always ready to lend a hand, or a shovel. She is the voice of the autopsy exhibit in the forensic wing at the United States National Museum of Medicine, and recently published her memoir, All Men Are Cremated Equal: My 77 Blind Dates.

Elizabeth joined us on Feb 4th's Conscious Discussions episode to discuss Green Funerals.
