-- Quote of the Day --

“…If I don’t write, things just don’t feel right. I love being immersed in words, I’ve always had an overactive imagination and find myself asking “what if…?”. Which can get me in trouble sometimes, I’ll send stuff to my agent and she’ll say ‘No-no, no’. (she giggles). …When I was first starting out as a writer the people around me were not very understanding. …It can be very difficult when you have to explain that you can’t bake 250 cupcakes for the PTA and you are in the middle of a book. …And I still get that after all this time - from family members even: ‘Well Michael’s home all day, sitting around doing nothing’ (she laughs). Re: Finding a balance: It is always a daily struggle for me; the meals suddenly become simple, and my hair is lucky to get combed and I may not shop for groceries as much as I should.”
~ Michael West – Feb 3, 2009

This quote of the day was excerpted from an interview with Michael in which we discussed her experiences in the world of writing. -- Celebrations this Week --

Well, this weekend - as most of us are already aware - is the Easter holiday. For some it is a great time to spend with the family, get involved in community events, attend fairs, festivals or parades and join in reading groups at the library. Yesterday, the Jewish holiday - Passover - began and this will run through to the 16th. Today is both Good Friday and the birthday of Jack Miner - one of the founders of Canada's conservation movement, and therefore an important day to Dave and I. National Wildlife Week ends on the 11th, so we still have today and tomorrow to participate in awareness celebrations or family activities that celebrate wildlife - one of my favorite times of the year.

If you thought there was a lot going on this last week - just wait until next week! There is so much going on and so many opportunities to get involved, have fun and learn something new... and you can rely on this blog to help bring awareness to events happening around the planet! :)

-- Authors Read Radio --

Kunle Oguneye was born and raised in Nigeria. He has lived in the United States for the last thirteen years. He gave up a career in technology in order to pursue his love for children's story-telling. According to the author's publicist, there is a serious lack of African culture and history in the marketplace. The result is his new, swiftly selling (both in the U.S. and abroad), vividly illustrated, children's African folktale: Sikulu and Harambe by the Zambezi River.
